Girl From Pondicherry Becomes Champion Sleeper
Thursday, September 07, 2006
by Vaishnavi Prasad
Chennai, Sep 07 : Ms. Ashwini, a girl from Pondicherry, who has joined the B.A. Journalism course at M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women, today fell asleep and proved herself to be a champion sleeper.

Ms.Ashwini, 17, who happens to be the state topper of the Std.XII Board Examinations in Pondicherry, was sitting in History of Press class held today in Room no. 51 of M.O.P. Vaishnav College when towards the end of the class, a certain fatigue began to overcome her. Soon, Ashwini was fast asleep, hugging her bag, which acted like a surrogate pillow. The entire event of her falling asleep would not have made news, if it weren't for Ms. Anusha Parthasarathy,a student of B.A. Journalism who informed us gladly, that Ashwini's ancient ancestor was Kumbhakarna and that waking Ashwini was a task none could possibly do. Ms. Anusha stated that when Ms. Ashwini had gone to her house, she had fallen asleep and Ms. Anusha, along with quite a bit of help from Ms. Abinaya and Ms.Poorva, also students of the same course, had tried to wake her up, in vain.

On hearing this, the task of waking Ms. Ashwini up, became a challenge immediately and several people were coming up trying their luck at waking Ms. Ashwini up. They used several methods like pinching, slapping, hitting, shaking, rolling, screaming and even throwing water, but Ms. Ashwini remained asleep ignorant the fact, that quite a few were involved in this process. While one or two objected to this, those who were deprived from entertainment, used this as an opportunity to laugh. After nearly 30 minutes of putting Ms. Ashwini through torture, the students gave up, knowing that their so called "kumbhakarni" would not arise.

Fifteen minutes later, Ms. Aswini's eyes slowly parted, and slowly stretching her limbs, and she woke up. Still engulfed by the effect of the deep slumber, she seemed dazed for a couple of minutes and then recollected her thoughts and came back to effective senses. The incident ended with her being teased by her classmates with a video taken of her and otherwise being cut short with the entry of the other lecturer.

The slumber continues.
